Introduce yourselves, how did it all start?
I started playing guitar when I was 12 and writing songs at about 14. I made a myspace page and called myself Ellie Makes Music and the name stuck! I started off playing gigs around the music scene in Cardiff and have recently moved to Bath for University!
Describe your sound?
My songs have been described as a new twist on the singer-songwriter genre. There are elements of folk, pop and rock, with lyrics as ‘coming of age stories from the frontline of teenage life’
Who are your main influences? How have they helped you in creating your sound?
I taught myself to play guitar and adapted my style of playing by Laura Marling and Joni Mitchell songs. I’m also influenced by people like Ben Howard, Lucy Rose and The Civil Wars.
What are you currently working on now?
I released my first EP at the beginning of September, called ‘City Lights’. I’m going into the studio soon to do some recording to hopefully release something for Christmas, and then, fingers crossed, I’ll do another EP next year!
Any tours planned? If so when & where?
No tours planned, but I will be supporting Paper Aeroplanes at Chapel Arts on November 14th, as well as gigs in Cardiff, all of which will be updated on my website and facebook page.
What can people expect from your music and live shows?
People can expect honest lyrics and as much energy and passion as I can muster when I play live sets! Also, my bad attempts at stage banter!
Where can people check out/access your music?
People can check out my website, http://www.elliemakesmusic.com, or my facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/elliemakesmusic, for more information on upcoming gigs. My EP is available on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify and I upload demos onto my soundcloud, http://www.soundcloud.com/elliemakesmusic.
